Thank you Mr. President!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night, I went to the pharmacy to refill my prescription for the birth control pill.  We went through the drive through imagine my delight when there was zero payment due.  It used to cost $13/month.  After a year of getting screwed it felt like a small victory.

Today, the pharmacy that sends the drugs for the transfer contacted me to initialize everything.  I had expected it to be approximately $1500.00.  A fraction of the costs associated with IVF drugs.  Can you imagine my delight when I got the email saying that with my co-pays I owe $227.00?  Wait, hold the brakes... did she just say co-pays?  I expected this to be total out of pocket.  I emailed her back... Did you just say co-pays?  Yes she did!

I think we just won the health care reform lottery.  None of this was covered before.  NONE!  I believe this might be a pleasant bonus to the newest installment of the health care reform that was effective August 1.  I could be totally wrong, and it could just be a coincidence.  I sit here and wait for my insurance company to catch onto the fact that they made a mistake.  For right now, I am declaring victory!

  1. Ah! It is good to hear someone celebrate reform! Especially us ladies with so much to gain! Congrats on the IVF med copays. That really is incredible. I know that the current legislation did not mandate IVF coverage, but the Department of Health and Human Services is having an internal debate on the issue. How amazing would that be?!

    1. I was really happy with saving $13.00 on the pill, so this was a pleasant surprise. It might just be a coincidence, but whatever, I'll take it.

It certainly would be amazing if someday, this was covered by all insurance companies. A girl can dream.

  4. Hey there, I am stopping by to say hi from ICLW, I am glad the heath care reforms seem to be working for you. I live in the UK and although there are problems with the NHS I do love free healthcare and wouldn't swap it for anything. I am enjoying exploring your blog.

  5. Hi, here from ICLW. I think the ACA (affordable care act) is so great in so many ways, and people don't even realize it. Birth control being covered is a HUGE deal! For years my doc had to write specifically "indicated for dysmenorrhea" on the Rx or else I paid a huge fee. Starting next year, you can't be excluded for a "pre-existing condition" -- including infertility. Woo hoo!! And already kids can stay on their parents' insurance plans til the age of 26. That means they don't have to find the *best* job after college, and can get regular care.
I'm biased, I'm a doctor in the academic world. But every time someone says they want to repeal the ACA, I cringe. The majority of this country is already benefitting and they don't even know it yet.
